Adex and The Export Project

I had the opportunity to work in a visionary export consortium project of three integrated companies, led by the United Nations program UNIDO for Export Consortia, www.unido.org on an export consortium project of three integrated companies located on the south side of Lima. The consortium of medium companies I worked for is in the metal mechanics sector.

My job at the export consortium placed me in a leadership position as I had to motivate the consortium managers to be team players and join forces to reach foreign markets; otherwise, the alliance would not have worked. I have been working on accomplishing tasks such as developing the identity of the consortium, doing research on Peruvian export and import statistics and researching potential import countries for metal furniture products. I have been researching the Peruvian customs website and official export and import statistics websites. Also, after identifying international markets, I built a database of potential clients of more than 100 just to start. I looked for international and national fairs, commercial missions, and business conferences in which the consortium could participate.

They got help from a Dutch cooperation called Pump and a Swiss cooperation called Swisscontact for senior, a product for export was chosen and the consortium participated in a business conference sponsored by the minister of commerce embassy of Argentina in Peru.

I am thankful to has worked for a project that has a broad economic vision and the purpose of developing industry in Peru.

Concerning my relevant experience, after obtaining a professional degree of Business Administration, I pursued a specialization in international trade in an advanced program through the Peruvian Association of Exporters (ADEX). I entered that program with the desire to learn more about exports and imports and how to conduct international business between countries, which is the main way to help solve economic problems around the world.
I was eager to go beyond the traditional in order to discover new and innovative solutions that will drive me to seek progress in a truly international perspective on today's business.Since That time I decided to be envolved in a International Business enviroment.

My experience with The Orphange !!

I had the opportunity to work with orphan children, which has become part of my life story. I will share how this experience happened:
I heard that a new orphanage had moved to my neighborhood. They were renting a house across the street from my house. I heard some whispering from my neighbors, saying things such as: “these children can’t play in the garden,“ “don’t let our children play with them,“ “how is it possible that Mrs. Magneto has rented her house to an orphanage,” “these kinds of children shouldn’t live in our neighborhood.” I heard these kinds of phrases from them so I felt curious to meet them. One day after my job I went to visit them. I introduced myself to a lady that took care of them. I told her that I would like to visit them. She said : “ You are welcome “ this is how the story began………….
I called my friends Karen and Eunice. I told them about the children and that we could visit them . I remember the first time that we visited them they acted wild, I mean they kicked, punched and insulted us and all the time they repeated a phrase, “ you are just here for today and you won’t ever come back to visit us .” I think they had bad experiences with volunteers .That day we showed a puppet program and played with them and we also shared about Christ . Each day that we visited them they felt more confident so they started to talk more with us . So we met the six children: Julio , Cristian, Orlando , Freddy , Jairo and Martin .There were 2 more boys, but they ran away trying to look for their mother . I didn’t see them anymore .
One weekend I took to Jairo and Cristian to the center of town. We went to a book fair and I bought some fairy tales for them and the rest of the children. Then we went to eat ice-cream. When we returned to the orphanage the children were waiting for us. It was at night, and I sat with them in the living room to read the book , and they took some sheets of paper and colors and started to draw some drawings and some characters from the books. I remember that day the best drawing was by Orlando. His drawing was perfect and beautiful, the best one . Orlando is a guy that has dyslexia and he suffered a blow to his brain from his mother so he was affected and he could not pronounce words very well. He is the weakest of the group . When I returned to my home I couldn’t sleep thinking about him. His face and the drawing were on my mind. I cried that night; I said to myself, he has a great skill but no money to develop this . I prayed for him that night and I was thinking about what to do . Days later I went to the art school to talk to the manager. I requested from the school a partial scholarship for Orlando . I told the manager that I had discovered a great talent in an orphan child. “ He has a great talent,” I said, and could they give him a partial scholarship? He looked at me and said, “I won’t give the child a partial scholarship, I will give a full scholarship” !! I saw the Glory of God. I was really excited and I bought paintings and some paintbrushes .This is how Orlando took painting classes. He did beautiful paintings !! I think he can become a great painter!!

I also observed that there were not many volunteers and they felt alone if nobody visited them. They lived with the maid and the manager, and she just came to see them during the day because she lived with her family . I knew that they needed some help with their homework and that they were able to learn many things, so I encouraged my friends from the University to visit them . The orphanage moved to another neighborhood because they were not able to pay the rent so they went to another house. My friends started to visit in their free time but they didn’t have much time. I wondered what I could do? So I looked up on the internet some international organizations that send people to volunteer, so I found AFS “Intercultural programs “ http://www.afs.org.pe and I contacted them . I went with Sonia the ex manager to have a meeting with Sofia Catalan the president of AFS . We asked her for help sending volunteers to the orphanage so we filled an applications form up. This is how I met Sofia and “AFS” helped the orphanage . This organization sent many volunteers from different countries that helped the children with homework , languages, games and having a fun time . They filled not only the emptiness of the place also the hearts of the children ! Thank you Sofia Catalan !!! We shared great experiences . I organized games in the beach , I think playing in the beach is relaxing and I enjoyed that day. We also visited another orphanage with the kids; my friend is the director so I talked to her and she was happy to receive us . We had a fellowship day , we had origami classes and they learned the art of making bracelets . We celebrate some birthdays. I have a friend David Sutton that helped the children pay for swimming classes, clothes , toys, and food. Thank you David!!! I think the children always remember those wonderful days .
There were some problems in the orphanage, for example there was not a good organization. The manager was not the right person for this position because there were no specific departments and she didn’t care much about the children. They needed more than time with volunteers; they needed a psychologist, doctor, social worker, etc. I was working and studying at the university; I was just a volunteer so I couldn’t do much . Finally the manager was not paying the rent or electricity so they had to move to her house . One day the government of Peru went to visit some orphanages and they saw the children sleeping on the floor without any protection, so they took them to another orphanage where they are living now. It is a big place where there are a lot of orphan children. I went to visit them many times. I live in Lima now but when I visit Trujillo I try to see them . One day Jairo told me that the orphanage was taking many pictures of him and he will have a new family, but they didn’t know who they are. Jairo is a child that all the time holds your hands , I know that he needed love; he gave each person that visited the orphanage a huge hug. I know that he wanted a family. Before he arrived to the orphanage the police found Jairo dying in the beach; he was 3 years old and he used to sing in the bus. His mother visited him just a few times and later she disappeared. Now Jairo has a new family . He is in Italy and there is a rule that you can’t be in touch with an adopted child for 5 years . When he said goodbye to the children he cried a lot and said that some day he will return for them !! . I hope to see Jairo again !!!

Cristian and Julio are brothers. They were adopted by an Italian family also, and they live there now . I remember one day I was playing with Cristian and he said, “Carol, do you have children ?” I replied : “no.” He said : “Would you like to be my mother ?” It really broke my heart. I just held him until he felt better .
Now his dream came true, he has a real family and he lives with his brother I had the opportunity to meet his grandfather; he used to visit them .

The last time that I visited them I didn’t see Jairo , Cristian and Julio, I just saw 3 of the original boys and 1 new orphan. Fredy told me that he wants to become a Chef, Martin loves languages , Orlando wants to become a painter . I believe that they can reach their goals !! I always want to keep in touch with them ! I hope someday to see Jairo , Cristian and Julio !! I always wonder what is going on with them! They are still on my mind . : )

I want to thank the AFS intercultural program volunteers for the volunteer work, Sofia Catalan , Karen Vasquez Haro, David Sutton, Cristina Ferradas, Mariela Nunez, Juliana Agusto , Susy Quilcate, Eunice chavarrie , Yeraldine Icochea Mejia , Angelita Casanova ( my grandmother ),Paola Pereda ,Marlom, Clara lee, willy Madrid .
“What I learned from this experience is that when you have a big problem it becomes tiny when you see orphan children’s problems.”

IELTS “International English Language Testing System”
I got IELTS “Academic Version”

IELTS is a international test of English language proficiency. It is owned by three reputable, international organizations: University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, The British Council and IDP British Council and IDP Education Australia. It has the highest quality control and security procedures. More than 6000 organisations, including many government departments and universities, rely on IELTS. The IELTS scoring system is recognized globally, giving you a truly international result . There are two versions of the IELTS: the Academic Version and the General Training
I took the Academic format. It is for those who want to study or train in an English-speaking university or Institutions of Higher and Further Education. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on the results of the Academic test.

I took the academic version of the IELTS test on 27 June 2009 at Britanico, which is the official centre to give this international exam in Peru . Before taking this exam I was involved in a training IELTS course at “Universidad del Pacifico” .

I was always curious to take this exam when I passed by Britanico Institute. I said to myself, “someday i will take this test,” but I didn’t know when exactly, so after finishing my specialization in international trade I was motivated to look for further international education and any studies abroad. IELTS is a requirement . I remember that I was looking for some places to be trained in IELTS and here in Lima there are many but not all are reliable, so I signed up at University of the Pacific in its language centre that is well-known in my country. I remember the first day of classes in the listening section the teacher played a CD for 1 hour without stopping, and with different accents from Europe such as Irish, British , Scottish, etc. and also Australian . I hadn’t practiced since I graduated from Sali so for me it was hard to start again and work with my English, especially with these kinds of accents, it was really tough ! The writing section is divided in task 1 and task 2 . The first one had charts; it could be bars, lines or pipes and 1, 2 or 3 charts . You have to write 150 academic words in 20 minutes so I had to learn the structure and use the correct words for each graph. It was kind of complex for me in the beginning .Task 2 you have to write 250 words in 40 minutes. I wrote many essays; it was kind of boring for me, sometimes I had to rewrite some essays . In the Reading section I had to read some topic about medicine, geology ,etc . In class my classmates were stressed and worried all the time talking about the band score that each one needed. Sometimes you can feel nervious thinking about how the exam will be and what will happen next. I think that IELTS is a test with many mysteries; you don’t know what will happen. This is how people involved in it feel . Most people in my class were very focused on it, and the most of them were thinking of studying abroad: Andrea in Finland. Richard in Australia, Lisbeth in Canada . The teacher told us all the time that Ielts is not easy and we have to be serious about it ,she also said that few people pass this test. When you hear that you can feel insecurity about yourself and in this time you have to work with your personality and believe that you can do it !! I don’t know why she said these phrases all the time, maybe to push us to study more .

The day came. I took my speaking test which was divided in 3 sections . It was with a British lady; she was so nice and asked me many things. I remember that when she started the interview she had a recorder and said : It is 11 am and we are in International English Language Testing System with Peruvian candidate Leslye Carol Ponte Roncal. When I heard how she started the interview I felt like I was in a contest because of the way she talked , at first I was kind of nervous and then I was more confident with myself. I was able to talk about many things and we talked for 30 minutes.

My full length test was Saturday 27 June, in the morning, in Britanico’s auditorium. It is a big place. I was surprised because I saw many people taking this test. I said, “Oh my God ! There are so many people in the same boat ! “ There were more than 100 people. I met Richard and Lisbeth there . In the auditorium there were 4 speakers for the listening section . The test started with listening and they gave me 4 sheets that I had to complete following the CDS. My heart started to beat, I breathed deeply and asked God for wisdom. I know that God was with me since the beginning of this story until the end of my test. I praise my lord ! The reading and writing sections were long and I just wanted to finish the IELTS test. When I finished writing I was exhausted . There was a girl that was giving the instructions; she said in the end “ The Britanico wishes you success. “ I think everybody went home to sleep after this. She was funny and sarcastic in some way.

IELTS was for me a challenge with mysteries that now is one of my achievements, and when think about IELTS this phrase comes to my mind:
“ When you are faced with a difficult challenge, you have to see a big opportunity to discover yourself and how much you can do. “

friends forever

You put “F” in friend !!
Friendship is considered one of the central human experiences, it involves mutual knowledge, esteem and affection. Friends also exchange advice and share hardship; friendship is nothing more than trust that someone will not harm them. To sum it up, it is sympathy and empathy !!! This is the meaning of friendship, this is what friends do for each other.
My friends are important and I appreciate them a lot! I miss my friends from Trujillo so much, because I spent most of my life with them since I was a child . With my friend Giovana when something happened in our relationships , we used to imitate the scene. She is a good actress, and we called it “theater from theater.“ It was really funny and hilarious just to see how we acted and how well we did it ! LOL just to think about it makes me laugh !!
With Karen and Tatiana I used to take a walk around the main square and talk a lot . They always had new experiences to talk about. We loved to talk about job interviews and the way to act in front of an interviewer and try to answer some tough questions .
My friend Cristina was my first “PISCES” friend. We were born on the same day and we are kind of similar; we like languages and international trade . One year we celebrated our birthday together; we went with her family to have lunch at the Club Central and we had a great time there !!!Vanessa and Claudia are in lima so I am really happy to see them !!
I have more special friends from Trujillo. I could write a long list; I have more and more friends and many things to say, with good and sad moments. I miss them a lot but there's nothing I can do since I do not live in Trujillo for now , but thank you for the good memories , the laughter and the tears . They will linger in my heart as if we never parted, but if by chance we meet again I will be happy. May your life be full of blessing; for now all that I can say is I’ll pray to God for you!!!!

When I arrived in Lima . I wanted to make new friends again, but I was living with my cousin so it was really nice to hang out with her , she was like my guide. Thank you Giova for your friendship and generosity. In my International Business school “ADEX” my first friends were Jenny and Dennisela; they are lovely !! We had our study group and meetings in Denisela’s house with other students . Denisela became the president of the class . In one party I met Ursula “ Uchi “ she is really cool. Thank you Uchi for all your advice especially “ The secret” !!! jajaja hahaha . It’s incredible how many experiences I have with my friends.
For my long distance friends that live far away , no matter how many miles , we will be friends forever !!! The world is small and I am sure that I will see you soon !!

“A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."

The Chronicles of Narnia and My life ........

Lucy inside the wardrobe !!/ Lucy dentro del Guardaropa.

The four siblings outside the wardrobe .. !!/ Los cuatro hermanos fuera del guardaropa.

The chronicles of Narnia have remained the benchmark for literacy fantasy and it is originate in C . S Lewis’s life- his experiences, sense of humor, deep interests, hobbies, loves, fears and dreams. I can say that The wardrobe, Narnia has enchanted the hearts and minds of generations around the globe. I am one of them, I was enchanted by the fantasy of Narnia. Through the tales of Narnia, Lewis swept readers into a magical world. But his purpose was not simply to divert readers with fantasy. Rather Lewis wanted to return his readers to reality equipped with new images and metaphors that help them find magic in their own lives. I believe that there is something Magic inside us that we need to discover I think it is more than magic is something special that you can see through the wardrobe and you will look your life experiences , dreams , hopes, aspirations and also your destiny.

The first book that I read was “ The Witch , The Lion and the Wardrobe” I remember that it was a homework in SALI institute my second place where I studied English and I have good memories. The book describes four siblings: Peter,Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pensevensie – are sent to the country to stay with old professor Digory Kirke to scape the air raids in London. The children step through the professor’s wardrobe and find themselves in the land of Narnia, which is always winter but never Christmas. where they met new creatures and experimented extraordinaire adventures and have Enchanted by the Witch’s offer of endless Turkish Delight and a chance King, Edmund betrays his brother, sisters and the Great Lion Aslan.

This is one of my favorites book , when I read the first time my mind flew far away in a new and magical world called Narnia . It remind me this world because many people in this world are divided in different lands , continents, nations and also culture, languages, religions and with different points of view. Each country is a different world with many things inside that we need to discover , Most people live day by day without ever feeling engaged in the great issues of existence . Narnia for me represent these worlds and the wardrobe ,a fantasy bridge that leads each reader directly to these places . My first time inside the wardrobe was when I left my city Trujillo , family and friends of all my life and I started a new life in Lima where in my school of International Trade “ADEX” my eyes where opened to see more than do international business.I entered that program with the desire to learn more about export and import and how to conduct international business between countries, which is the main way to help solve economic problems around the world, there also I met really good and interesting people where I could see their goals and how they persuade them. They are now special for me and I appreciate them a lot. I have many unforgetful experiences with them. Now I ended up again inside the wardrobe I will go India to study there . I am really excited meet new friends , gain an unique cross-cultural awareness and also have new adventures That will keep in my heart forever !!!

Lucy Pevensie meets Mr. Tumnus !!!

This is the best beautiful written part in the book when Lucy Penvensie’s trip through the wardrobe and the magical world she found there . She met to Mr. Tumnus , he is a faun –a mythical creature with the head and chest of a man and legs of goat , carrying an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood. They were scared when they met each others. she encountered in an unknown world and they were totally diferents but with the same feelings !!!! The funny part is when they greet each others Lucy said : You shake hands and Mr. Tumnus replied : Why ?? she said : “I don’t know “ “people do this when they meet each others” . It was part of her culture do this and no for Mr. Tumnus But they broke cultural barriers and were able to shake hands .
You can see this scene in the following video:

I love Turkish delight !! Uhmmm

I can’t tell you how surprised I was when the package from England arrived. The postman brought it to my house and I was very excited when I saw that it was from my friend Iona . Then when I opened it and saw a box of turskish delight !! I have to say I was truly delighted. Thank you so much!! I love these candies as much as chocolates. Wherever I go Turkish delight will remind me the book of Narnia.
In the book the Queen discovers that Edmund is a human child. she suddenly becomes very attentive, and invites Edmund to sit in her sledge under her fur mantle and talk with her. Edmund does not dare disobey her orders. The Queen conjures up food and drink for him, which consists of a hot drink and a box of Turkish Delight. As he eats and drinks, the Queen asks him many questions. Edmund might have been wary of trusting this strange, imposing woman, but he is completely fixated on the sweet food.

“People say that the Turkish Delight is enchanted, causing whoever eats it to feel an insatiable greed for more”
That's why " I love and I Can't stop eating this ..!!!!
